Thorpe Green Car Park and Community Fitness project

The Thorpe Green Car park and Community Fitness project will become a huge asset for the local community and help provide essential amenities to different members of the community.

It will help have a transformational effect on an area beset with anti-social behaviour, into a hub to increase fitness levels, improve mental-health and well-being whilst allowing a much larger cross section of the community to benefit from the open spaces of Thorpe Green.

The new car park will provide access for disabled users, dog walkers, sports teams and families to enjoy the green spaces. The fitness area will connect people, free of charge, so they can socialise and benefit from the range of differing ability equipment.

There will be calisthenic equipment for the more able and younger members of the community whilst there will be lower level oak fitness apparatus for the elderly and less able members of the community.

The new, enlarged car park will create opportunities to expand the use of the green spaces with potential park run, dementia walks for the elderly and children’s sports teams able to use the sports pitches.

The new judo club and café adjacent to the car park will become a focal point for the local community, a place to meet, connect and improve the interconnectedness of the community. On site toilets and disabled access will complement the new car park and fitness area, encouraging more members of the community to this site, previously notorious for fly tipping.

The anticipated multiplier effect of this project is enormous, with increased passing trade for businesses in Thorpe village and job opportunities that arise from the growth of the café and judo club.

There is already a groundswell of local support for improvements in this area and we hope to see this project realised with the support of the local community.

The total cost of the project is £79,000 and we are applying for £68,000.
