Challengers - Surrey Hills Inspired Inclusive Playground

As a charity, Challengers is dedicated to breaking down barriers to ensure that all disabled children have access to play, regardless of their impairments or needs. We provide fully inclusive play, leisure and early educational opportunities for disabled children and young people, aged 2-18, across Surrey, Hampshire, West Sussex and Greater London.

After providing more than 25 years of fun and accessible play to thousands of children at Challengers, our old playground our Guildford Playcentre, based at Stoke Park, sadly had to be removed in 2021. However, we are now embarking on an exciting mission to build a brand new, fully accessible playground for the next generation of disabled children and young people, as well as the wider community.

With a design inspired by the beautiful Surrey Hills, this multi-functional space will be enjoyable for many, creating a perfect play environment for the whole community!

The playground will feature specialist equipment to facilitate children with differing needs, including a wheelchair-accessible carousel and multiple seating options for swings, and play equipment is chosen specifically to help develop children’s fine and gross motor skills. Every detail has been designed with purpose, following extensive observations of how children play at Challengers and the equipment they use.

When not in use at Challengers, we’ll be opening our new playground to the general public for local families to enjoy together. It’s an exciting opportunity for us to build a space bringing disabled and non-disabled children together, where they can make friends and learn from each other, without limitations.

Our new playground will cost £250,000 to build and maintain, so we are requesting £99,000 from Your Fund Surrey to help us to fund this amazing space which everyone can enjoy.
