1st Ash Vale Scout Group New Headquarters & Community Wellbeing Meeting Place

1st Ash Vale Scout Group has been serving the young people of Ash Vale, Ash and surrounding areas for over 85 years. Over 120 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Guides, meet weekly at the Group Headquarters in Wood Street, Ash Vale. It is probably the biggest youth group in the area and is accessible and inclusive to all.

The existing pre-fabricated building is at the end of its life. It has many potential problems that could make it unusable and risk the future of our youth group. A new energy efficient and sustainable building in the heart of the community will help tackle deprivation and facilitate social need, clubs, hobbies, interests and education during the day, whilst ensuring we can continue to provide the Scouting experience to the next generation in the late afternoon and evenings.

The Scout Group has a long history of working in and with the local community. We recognise the great opportunity a new building would present to further this work and facilitate today’s local community needs. Our Group has the energy, commitment, good understanding and modern approach to target social need in our area; friendship, loneliness, well-being, anti-social behaviour. Holding Technology Cafés to assist older people with tablets / phones, is a simple example of an educational need that can facilitate communication and access to information. A team is in place to support, stimulate and manage day-time use, which will be a catalyst for growth.

Many local businesses are fully behind our ideas and have pledged support, along with community-based organisations who have expressed interest in using the new building. We plan to provide at-cost hire to non-profit organisations.

Our project value is now £560, 000 and we request £520, 000 from Your Fund Surrey.
